Thanks for the replies from Rick, Ken and WD. The little
Savage price kept coming down as the local shop uncrated the all of the
new bikes for Spring. I am the proud owner of a used (not too much)
2000 Savage. The one "ding" was a broken exhaust bracket
which the shop replaced and installed to help it out the door. I even
met the first owner - lives just a few streets away.
Big step up from my 250 Nighthawk. When I lived in the Wash DC
area the 250 was perfect for traffic, the flats and rolling hills.
But in NE Pennsylvania "Big Blue" kinda' can't handle the mountains.
A little saddle sore, 2 tanks of gas later, I am a happy camper.
My only tense moment was when the first tank of gas was almost up...
I hadn't aquainted myself with the fuel petcock.
Panic - cough - bamm (backfire)! cough - dead. After pulling the clutch and
rolling off to the side of the road I got the reserve flowing,
tucked in my pride and motored to the nearest gas station.
The Savage is just what the doctor ordered to help one recover
from a long - long northeast winter.
Thank you folks for all of your messages on this board. The
enthusiasm and real-world info is what convinced me to find a Savage.
safe rides,
Tim C.
